Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives

The course of study creates conditions for the successful preparation of the final qualification (diploma) thesis, both professionally and formally. The course is practically oriented, students get acquainted with and analyse, among others, real diploma theses including their evaluation by the supervisor and the opponent of the thesis, they identify their strengths and weaknesses. An integral part of the course is also an introduction to the system of state final examinations of master´s studies, including the defence of diploma theses.

Course objectives:

- to help master the professional aspect of the diploma thesis, especially the methodological and methodological aspect;

- to emphasise the principles of citation ethics;

- to introduce the current version of the Rector's guidelines on the preparation of final qualification theses;

- to remind the valid principles of working with bibliographic sources, including the adequate handling of direct quotations, paraphrases and continuous reference to the bibliographic sources used;

- to recall the main principles and principles of stylistic, grammatical and graphic treatment of professional texts.

Syllabus

Main topics of the course (topics of individual seminars):

1. Definition of the essence of writing a diploma thesis, choice of the topic of the thesis, purpose and definition of the objectives of the thesis, benefits of the thesis.

2. Introduction to possible thesis topics based on the listed subject areas.

3. Creation of the thesis outline, structure of the diploma thesis, main parts of the thesis and their content. Theoretically vs. practically oriented parts of the thesis.

4. Methodology, methods. 

5. Research questions (and hypotheses).

6. Analytical methods.

7. Research/survey as part of the thesis. Synthesis, formulation of summary proposals and final recommendations.

8. Substantive and formal elements of the diploma thesis and the professional text.

9. The main guidelines for the preparation of undergraduate theses according to the current guidelines of the Rector of NEWTON University. 

10. Work with bibliographic sources (citations, paraphrases), creation of bibliographic references.

11. Evaluation of the diploma thesis, aspects of evaluation.

12. Defence of the diploma thesis. State final examinations of the master's studies.


Assessment methods (in Czech)
Zápočet (prez., dist.): do stanoveného termínu provedená volba tématu diplomové práce včetně vytvoření jejího zadání v informačním systému vysoké školy; dále pak zpracování a odevzdání ucelené části diplomové práce (v elektronické podobě) a její následná stručná prezentace během skupinového kolokvia, v rámci kterého získá student rovněž zpětnou vazby ze strany vyučující(ho)
