The presented paper focuses on the importance of developing new skills and competencies in the era of digitalization, aligning with the challenges set forth by the European Commission. The authors of the paper primarily concentrate on identifying soft skills and providing examples of best practices through international projects in which the authors of paper have been actively involved. The reason for emphasizing soft skills is that they will be crucial in the selection of employees, as they cannot currently be replaced by any technology or artificial intelligence. In the context of developing soft skills, the target extends beyond current employees to include both the older generation and young individuals entering the job market. In connection with best practices in the form of solved projects, the contribution will also address the significance of international projects in identifying and developing the required skills and competencies supported by European Union resources (grant schemes). © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
