This chapter deals with regulation of autonomous vehicles in the Slovak Republic in relation to current challenges in the European Union. The digitization process and the introduction of artificial intelligence will have an impact on all areas of life and the entire society, while the automotive industry is not an exception. Autonomous vehicles are an increasingly discussed topic in the automotive industry. Currently, autonomous vehicles in various forms are mainly used in production and logistics facilities. Gradual implementation of autonomous vehicles into day-to-day life and regular traffic will affect the way of thinking and living. It is important to realize that autonomous vehicles will have to handle situations in which drivers or human interface is responsible for their decisions and actions. Nevertheless, with the swift advancement of vehicle automation toward commercialization, concerns of a legal questions have emerged regarding regulatory matters that require addressing. Based on the abovementioned, the authors of the paper are dealing with the theoretical background of the issue, the analysis of the legal regulations in connection with autonomous vehicles at the international level and in the Slovak Republic, as well as the analysis and presentation of the new Act No. 429/2022 Coll. on the development of automated vehicles.
