Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the basics of management - beginning with the history and ending with the current approaches and trends in management. After completing the course, the students will be able to use the various management functions in real life situations. The course graduates understand the requirements for managing a business entity. They know the difference between strategic and operational management, management in the market environment, its position and application. They understand the correlation with major factors in the environment, demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and methods that correspond with the range of activities conducted by managers. Students also gain the knowledge and skills needed for the interpretation of data which will be required for their future decisions in the unstable and unpredictable environment. They will be able to handle the management of more complex professional activities and projects using the tools for planning, implementation and feedback. Managers from outside the university are invited to act as external lecturers during the course to motivate the students to a deeper interest in the topic. During the seminars, students will work on case studies and assignments taken from real life situations of business and non-profit organisations.

  • 2. Opinion schools of management
  • 3. Organisational structures and their applications
  • 4. The roles and main tasks of a manager
  • 5. Management functions: planning, organizing, leading and directing, controlling
  • 6. Managerial planning
  • 7. Organization and division of labour
  • 8. Delegation as a tool to increase work efficiency
  • 9. Human resources management and human resources in the hands of a manager
  • 10. Decision making process
  • 11. Information processes and information systems in the company
  • 12. Controlling processes and personality of a manager
Assessment methods
Ungraded credit: (on campus) minimum attendance at seminars, obtaining a specified minimum number of points for activity at seminars and preparation of continuous assignments; (online) submission of a credit seminar paper meeting the specified requirements Examination: (on campus) written final test + oral examination; (online) written final test + oral examination (in person or in remote form)
