Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives

In the course, students are introduced to the basics of management. The starting point is the various stages of development and current schools and trends in management. After completing the course, the student will be able to use the individual managerial functions in his/her practice. Graduates of the course understand the requirements for management at the business entity level. They distinguish and know strategic and operational management, management in a market environment, its position and application. They understand the correlations with the relevant environment, demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and methods that are relevant to the scope of the manager's occupation.

Course Objectives:

- to become familiar with the key concepts of management;

- to understand in detail the different functions of management;

- to consistently distinguish between different time horizons for the performance of management activities;

- to be able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge to specific real situations of a business entity.
Syllabus

Main topics of the course (topics of individual lectures):

1. Evolution and essence of management.

2. Schools of thought in management.

3. Organizational structures and their applications.

4. The role and main tasks of the manager.

5. Functions of management: planning, organizing, leading and controlling.

6. Management planning.

7. Organisation and division of labour.

8. Delegation as a tool for increasing work efficiency.

9. Human resource management and personnel management in the hands of the manager.

10. Decision-making processes.

11. Information processes and information systems in the company.

12. Control processes and the manager's personality.

The course also provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for their future decision-making using the interpretation of relevant data in an unstable and unpredictable environment. They master the management of more complex professional or professional activities and projects using the tools of planning, implementation and feedback. 

Lectures by external managers form part of the course to motivate students to develop a deeper interest in the subject.

Case studies and assignments from business and non-business practice will be addressed in the seminars.

Topics of individual seminars (implemented in the scope of 2 hours of teaching once every 14 days):

1. Organizational structures and their applications.

2. Management planning.

3. Organisation and division of labour / work.

4. Delegation as a tool for increasing work efficiency.

5. Decision-making processes.

6. Control processes and manager's personality.

Assessment methods
Ungraded credit: (on campus) minimum 75% attendance at seminars, obtaining a specified minimum number of points for activity at seminars and preparation of continuous assignments; (online) submission of a credit seminar paper meeting the specified requirements
Examination: written final test + oral examination
