Course objectives

The aim of the compulsory course Project Management is to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for effective project management. Students will become familiar with the key principles of project management, its significance in process management, and its practical application across various professional fields.

 The course places emphasis on developing process-oriented and systems thinking, the ability to work with limited resources, effective planning, teamwork, and communication skills. It combines theoretical foundations with the analysis of real-world problems and work with case studies. Students will acquire competencies in project planning, goal setting, resource management, risk identification, and project evaluation.

 The teaching format includes interactive seminars, specialised lectures delivered by external experts, and hands-on work with the ProjectLibre software as a tool for computer-supported project management. By completing this course, students will gain a comprehensive overview of project management methods and their practical use. Guest lectures by professional project managers also form an integral part of the curriculum.

This structure provides students with a comprehensive overview of project management, ranging from basic terminology to practical skills that can be applied in professional settings. The topics are organised logically so that students first acquire theoretical foundations, then develop the skills required for planning and executing projects, gain familiarity with tools and methodologies, and finally strengthen their abilities in teamwork and collaborative work.

Seminar schedule
1.-2. Introduction to teaching. Project definition. Assignment of semester project. Creation of project teams for semester project. Project charter. Stakeholder analysis. Project objectives and outputs. WBS.
3.-4. Review of tasks from previous block. Basic operations with ProjectLibre/Project Charter: case study prepared in ProjectLibre/Project Charter. Project schedule
5.-7. Review of tasks from the previous block. Project budget. Project risk analysis. Presentation of semester project. Submission/evaluation of semester project. Awarding of credit.

Assessment methods
Credit:
  • a credit test with a minimum pass rate of 60%,
  • completion of assigned case studies,
  • active participation in seminars demonstrated through the submission,
  • defence, and presentation of the semester project.
Exam:
  • written exam with a minimum pass rate of 51%.
