Syllabus

Main Topics of the Course (Topics of Individual Lectures):
01. International Trade – A Macro Perspective (based on the theoretical foundations of international trade and its historical development; characterizes trade policy instruments and internationally accepted rules and practices).

02. International Trade (focuses on assessing the reasons why Czech companies enter foreign markets, information sources, international institutions, tariff and non-tariff barriers, the Czech Republic’s and the EU’s external economic relations, and foreign trade policy).

03. International Trade – A Micro Perspective (trade methods and their application, possible ways to enter foreign markets).
04. Foreign Market Research (the most important types of foreign market research that must be conducted before entering foreign markets for both exports and imports, their characteristics, and methods for conducting such research).

05. Sales Contract (the sales contract as a key topic in international trade, forms of contract negotiation, bidding and request-for-quotation processes, essential elements of the contract, the ICC Model Sales Contract and its application).
06. Pricing in International Trade (the importance of pricing, price negotiation including applicable terms, price research and examples of commonly used terms, sample price calculations for exports and imports).

07. Agency Relationship (assessment and recommendations regarding methods of handling exports using an agency relationship; the status of intermediaries, commission agents, and distributors).
08. Contracts Related to the Sales Contract I (contracts for the inspection of goods and contracts for work directly related to the sales contract; advantages and disadvantages that may arise in practice when negotiating these contracts; templates and rules for their use).

09. Contracts Related to the Sales Contract II (transportation and insurance contracts, advantages and disadvantages, templates, and rules for their use).
10. Defects and Complaints (defects and complaints, how to handle them appropriately, recommended and possible procedures during the complaint process).

11. Disputes in International Trade (disputes arising in the course of international trade, ways to prevent them, and, if they do arise, how to resolve them—methods for alternative dispute resolution, recommended forms of arbitration and internationally recognized rules governing them, as well as possible forms of dispute resolution before general courts).

12. Risks in International Trade (overview of risks, risk prevention, minimizing the likelihood of their occurrence, and—if they do occur—selecting an appropriate method for addressing them; the most significant and most common commercial risks).
