The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
This course aims to provide the students with some basic knowledge about strategic management in business practice. Within the course, students will learn about the content, scope, approaches and uses of strategic management. A partial goal is to stimulate the habits one would need to apply the various tools of strategic management in specific situations. The teaching is in the form of lectures where basic principles of strategic management are explained with subsequent examples of best practices and case studies where the various procedures get demonstrated. Various examples and real life case studies are used in seminars to practice the acquired knowledge. Managers from outside the university are invited to act as external lecturers during the course to motivate the students to a deeper interest in the topic. During the seminars, students will work on case studies and assignments taken from real life situations of business and non-profit organisations.

  • The basic syllabus of the course contains the following topics:
  • 1. Introduction to the strategic management, explanation of the context
  • 2. Basic principles of strategic management
  • 3. Strategic analysis
  • 4. Tools and procedures for the analysis of general and industry environments
  • 5. Analysis of internal environment Strategy selection
  • 6. Strategy implementation – strategy bearers
  • 7. Strategic controlling
  • 8. Crisis in the company growth and its strategically oriented solution
  • 9. Change management
  • 10. Competitive advantages and competitive strategies.
  • 11. Communication of business strategy
Assessment methods
Ungraded credit: (on campus) minimum attendance at seminars, obtaining a specified minimum number of points for activity at seminars and preparation of continuous assignments; (online.) submission of a credit seminar paper meeting the specified requirements Examination: (on campus) written final test + oral examination; (online) written final test + oral examination (conducted in person or remotely)
