Course objectives
The course Human Resource Management is devoted to the gradual comprehensive introduction of all the main systems, processes and activities that belong to the field of human resource management in the conditions of ordinary business entities. Along with acquiring the necessary professional knowledge, students are also guided to acquire the basic skills of human resource specialists and managers as well as line and middle managers necessary for the successful preparation, organization and implementation of the process of attracting and recruiting as well as selecting suitable job applicants, for the preparation, organization and conducting of interviews in the context of performance appraisal, motivational interviews, etc. Course objectives: to acquire basic knowledge of human resource management, to understand the main principles and principles of working with people; to become familiar with the different systems, processes and activities of human resource management in the environment of business entities; to become familiar with the often variant terminology of various authors (management vs. human resource management, HR, HR work, work with people; intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation, stimulation, etc.), and at the same time to understand the logical connections and continuities between general management and human resource management to view human resources management and its individual systems and processes in the necessary complexity, their often very intense interrelationships and contexts, as well as to perceive current trends in the field; to acquire the basic skills of a specialist and a human resources manager, e.g. in relation to searching, recruitment and selection of employees, employee evaluation, etc.
Syllabus
  • Main topics of the course (topics of the course lectures): 1. Introduction to HRM. The importance of HRM as a functional area of management and business. Historical development, theories and concepts of strategic HRM. 2. Legal aspects of HRM in the environment of the Czech Republic, Labour Code. 3. Personnel strategy, job analysis and personnel planning. 4. Search and recruitment. 5. Employee selection. 6. Recruitment, adaptation process, placement of employees. 7. Organisation and management of work performance, staff appraisal. 8. Motivation, stimulation and care of employees. 9. Remuneration of employees. 10. Staff training and development; succession and career management. 11. Organisational culture. 12. Modern trends in human resource management, HRM as a source of competitiveness of the company. The teaching will be supplemented by additional optional lectures by external experts from the ranks of HR-specialists and managers. The seminars, held once every 14 days for 2 hours, are focused on solving case studies and assignments from the practice of business entities. The subject of the seminars will be the following topics: 1. Initial case study linking human resource management with the activities of the management of the organization, business economics and other disciplines and activities in the enterprise (including presentation, discussion and comments on the solution of the study by the instructor and other students). 2. Legal aspects of human resource management in the Czech environment, Labour Code (partial case assignments from the practice of a business entity, with emphasis on internationally valid principles of protection of workers' rights). 3. Recruitment of employees (candidates for a chosen job position); creation of an offer (advertisement) of a job position by an employer; creation of a professional CV by a job candidate. 4. Selection of employees (evaluation of candidates' CVs, preparation, organisation and conduct of the selection interview). 5. Evaluation of employee performance, employee appraisal (preparation, organisation and conduct of the appraisal interview; motivational aspects of appraisal, link to employee remuneration). 6. Employee motivation, stimulation and care; employee remuneration (concept of a system of employee remuneration and care reflecting the needs and interests of employees and having a stimulating effect).
Assessment methods
Credit: (pres., dist.) participation in min. 4 seminars out of a total of 6, obtaining a specified minimum number of points for activity at the seminars and processing ongoing assignments, or for handing in credit seminar work corresponding to the established requirements Exam: (pres., dist.) written final test, in remedial terms oral exam (conducted by contact or distance method)
