Course objectives
The course introduces students to the study of social psychology, which is one of the basic (theoretical) psychological disciplines. The subject content is knowledge about interpersonal situations and relationships and about the ways of thinking, emotional experience and behaviour of an individual in a social context. The course emphasizes practical applications in a managerial context. The course builds on topics from introductory psychology and management disciplines and provides a cognitive basis for the teaching of some subsequent disciplines in which management issues are conceptualised in a social psychological context. Course objectives: to introduce students to the terms of social psychology and their meaning, to teach students to understand and predict people's behavior in a social context, to support the ability to perceive the topics of social psychology in a wider managerial context, to apply knowledge focused on leading, evaluating and motivating people in practice.
Learning outcomes
Main topics of the course (topics of individual lectures): Interpersonal relations (concepts of social psychology, social aspects of life, history of social psychology, relationship to other psychological and social sciences). Social groups (types of social groups and their dynamics, macrosocial phenomena). Methods of social psychology - theory (basic methods of social psychological research, scientific procedure, correlative and causal correlations, research ethics). Quantitative methods (correlation research, dependent/independent/intervening variable, experimental research, questionnaire survey, Likert scale). Qualitative methods (interpretation of data analysis, observation, interview and its phases, types of interviews, questions, focus group). Social identity and Self (socialization, social cognition – adaptation, perception, social role, social identity, individuation, social perception). Issues of identity (genes, culture, gender - determinants of human behavior, human identity, biological disposition vs. environmental influence). Values, behavior, attitudes (relationship of values ​​and attitudes, structure and function of attitudes, possibilities of changes and formation of attitudes, prejudices, collective memory). Institutions and organizations (society and its relationship to the group, primary, secondary and tertiary socialization, social inclusion). Social control (prosocial behavior, social control, natural and formal authority, social manipulation, propaganda). Sociometry and social networks (essence of sociometry, small group - communication networks, role of the individual, leadership, sociogram, social networks). Quality of life (concept of well-being, theory of peace and conflict, digital world, quality of life indices).
Assessment methods
Examination (pres., dist.): takes the form of a written final test, and in remedial terms, an oral examination conducted in a contact manner or using the tools of long-distance electronic communication.
