Course objectives

This course serves as an introduction to the study of economics and focuses on defining the subject of economics, its methods, and the characteristics and functions of the economy. The course focuses on analyzing the functioning of market mechanisms and the behavior of consumers and firms in a market environment. The course explains in detail the conditions under which firm and market equilibrium is established in various market situations, as well as the basic principles governing the formation of equilibrium in factor markets. The course covers both the theoretical foundations of the microeconomic sphere and microeconomic relationships, concepts, and the analysis of demand, supply, the market price formation mechanism, the establishment of market equilibrium, and the elasticity of demand and supply, as well as the behavior of consumers and firms in environments of both perfect and imperfect competition. The course addresses issues related to factors of production and production functions. The course content also covers government intervention from a microeconomic perspective, the alternative theory of the firm, and externalities. Special attention is given to the functioning of financial markets, money, and capital. The course also familiarizes students with the principles of microeconomic analysis.
