Course objectives
The course is designed to introduce students to the issues of international and area studies. Its aim is to contribute to the understanding of the nature of the contemporary world in which you live, in which both its transnational and international character on the one hand, and its regional or supra-regional character on the other, play a fundamental role. The course focuses on contemporary issues and challenges with global implications. The lecture part of the course deals with general issues, reflecting in particular economic and demographic facts about the different subject areas. The seminar part then focuses on practical business and cultural issues determining the subsequent specific strategies for entering the local market, taking into account local consumer profiles, etc. Course Objectives: to draw attention to the international and regional nature of the contemporary world; highlight the deeply international and regional character of the contemporary economic world; to reflect the major issues and challenges of our time with global implications; to learn about economic and demographic facts as well as other aspects (cultural, social, etc.) determining the necessary strategies for entering local markets.
Syllabus
  • Main topics of the course (topics of lectures): Germany and the Netherlands. France and Belgium. United Kingdom and Ireland. USA & Canada. Mexico and Latin America. Ex-CIS countries: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Caucasus. The topics of the seminars correspond to the topics of the lectures, each topic is devoted to a pair of seminars, i.e. a time span of 2x 2 teaching hours.
Assessment methods
Credit (pres., dist.): final test, obtaining credit is subject to min. 50% success rate, the test result is taken into account as part of the final evaluation of the subject exam. Exam (pres., dist.): written final test of concentration on the content of the subject's lectures, the final assessment takes into account the result of the final credit test.
