- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- Sustainability and environmental responsibility are the key issues in the world today. This course focuses on understanding the complex reasons for the need to move towards sustainable forms of production, introducing students to the fundamentals of contemporary environmental challenges and their relationship to management decisions. It is future managers and business founders who will be in positions where they need the tools to make informed decisions not only on sustainability issues.
The course aims to provide graduates with the necessary foundation for decision-making in environmental protection and responsible corporate leadership, as well as in everyday life. Students will learn how to work with resources and data related to these issues. In a group exercise, they will try to design a business that implements the principles of sustainable development and circular economy and defend their proposal to their classmates and the lecturer.
Course Objectives:
- to define and explain the basic concepts and principles of sustainability in the context of business and management;
- introduce to the concepts and economic, social, and environmental aspects of sustainability;
- be able to assess the sustainability of corporate strategies and activities;
- be able to design and implement sustainable corporate strategies and activities. - Syllabus
- Week 1: Introduction to sustainability in business: definitions and concepts of sustainability, ethics and corporate social responsibility.
- Weeks 2-3: Environmental challenges of the 21st century: loss of natural resources and biodiversity, waste and pollution issues, climate change and its impact on the economy.
- Week 4: Circular economy in practice: Principles of circular economy, Circular models and practical examples of successful implementation.
- Weeks 5-6: Implementing sustainable business models: Developing sustainable strategies and policies in the corporate environment.
- Weeks 7-8: Sustainability evaluation and measurement: Methods and tools for evaluating the sustainability of a company or product, establishing indicators and measuring the success of sustainable initiatives.
- Weeks 9-10: Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Involvement of stakeholders in decision-making processes in the field of sustainable activities, Communication of successes and challenges in the field of sustainable activities.
- Week 11: ESG framework and its application: ESG factors and their relevance for investors and businesses, ESG evaluation and reporting.
- Week 12: Regulation and policies in the context of sustainability: National and international policies related to sustainability, The role of governments and international organizations in promoting circular economy and meeting the SDGs.
