Course objectives
The aim of the compulsory course Project Management is to provide students with knowledge about project management, its content, scope and use in process management. The purpose is to develop the key competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes) needed for effective project management in various types of organizations, while the basic prerequisites for successful project management undoubtedly include process-oriented thinking, a systemic view of the matter, the ability to work with limited resources and structuring tasks in time. Course Objectives: - to acquire the basic knowledge of project management, to orient oneself in its benefits for business practice; - to thoroughly know and understand the basic principles of project management expressed in the form of the so-called three-imperative project; - ro learn the benefits of feasibility studies and thorough project planning; - to perceive project risks and understand the need to manage and eliminate them.
Syllabus
  • Main topics of the lectures: 1. Concept of projects and project management - basic concepts. 2. Project features and typical problems 3. Environment and the project. 4. Organizational structure of the project. 5. Project's three-imperative. 6. Project phases. 7. Logical framework of the project. 8. Stakeholder register. 9. Work Breakdown Structure. 10. Project Management - Time estimation, budget planning, impact of resource constraints, risks and reserves. 11. Risks in the context of the project. 12. Project evaluation. Lectures by external project management experts are also part of the course. The seminars will deal with case studies and assignments from the practice of business and non-business entities; the individual topics of the seminars will take the following form: 1. Benefits of project management. Comparison of conventional management and project management. Awareness of the differences. The correctness of choosing the appropriate method. 2. Definition of project objectives. Mastering the procedures for a good project initiation process. 3. Feasibility studies. Creating model studies and defending approaches. 4. Planning the project plan. Practicing and completing each phase of the project. 5. Project planning. Hierarchy of activities. Finding the critical path and finding reserves and efficiencies in project management. 6. Presentation of team projects followed by discussion. Mastering the project defence in the Toyota A3 report system.
Assessment methods
Ungraded credit: (on campus) min. 75% participation in seminars, obtaining a specified minimum number of points for activity in seminars, creditable written and ongoing work and presentation of a team project.; (dist.) submission of credit seminar work corresponding to the established requirements Examination: (pres.) oral examination; (dist.) oral examination and defense of the seminar work (implemented by contact or distance method)
