- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the basic psychological foundations for managerial practice and the business environment. It maps selected psychological disciplines that form the necessary basis for cultivating and developing competencies for personal and professional practice. Students are introduced to selected topics in cognitive psychology, personality psychology, occupational and social psychology, all with application potential to contemporary managerial and business practice. Course objectives: to introduce students to the issues of psychological thinking and the possibilities of using current psychological approaches and knowledge in management practice; to encourage interest in personal development of their potentials and personal resources; to acquire competences for understanding the psychological foundations of human behaviour and experience; to acquire basic psychological skills for communication and management of people and human systems on the basis of self-reflective practice
- Syllabus
- Main topics of the course (topics of individual lectures): Psychology in management (psychology, subject of psychology, basic psychological disciplines, applied psychological disciplines, objectives of psychology, behaviour, experience). Ways and methods of knowledge acquisition in psychology (qualitative research, quantitative research, research phase, research question, observation methods, interview, questionnaires, tests, analysis of findings). Human psyche - system of psychic phenomena (human psyche, psychic phenomena, psychic processes, psychic states, psychic contents. Biological determination. Sociocultural determination). Motivation in the context of management (Motivation, motive, initiative, needs, interests, ideals, theory of needs, models of motivation). Cognition and cognitive processes (Perception, perception, apperception, localization, recognition, individual differences in perception. Basics of modern neuroscience (conscious and noncoscious processes). Learning - the process of developing resources, skills and competencies (Learning, stages of learning, memory, reception, retention, reproduction, forgetting, mind maps, social learning). Personality as seen through psychology (Personality, personality structure, personality dynamics, personality development, temperament, character, socialization). Emotions and human emotionality (Emotions, feelings, affect, mood, passion, emotional attachment, frustration, emotional intelligence). Stressful situations in management (Stress, strain, crisis, general adaptation syndrome, psychological reactions to stress, stressors, coping strategies, defense mechanisms, frustration, burn-out syndrome). Self-management (Self-knowledge, self-concept and identity, self-development). Social environment and management (Interpersonal contact, social perception, halo effect and last impression effect, projection, categorization, interpersonal relationships). Communication and interpersonal relations in management practice (Verbal communication; non-verbal communication; paraverbal communication; feedback; communication styles, conflict, mediation). The subject of the seminars will be the following topics: Introduction to the subject - psychology in managerial practice. Motivation in the context of management. Psychology of learning. Personality and psychosocial development. State of flow - psychological aspects. Manager's library - presentation of seminar assignments. The seminars emphasize active and partner participation of students. Practically oriented exercises, group discussions, team work, presentation of outputs and own opinions dominate. The basic methods of work are reference, reflection and application.
- Assessment methods
- Credit (pres., dist.): Students prepare a credit work (in relation to the selected topic, with application to their own personal or professional practice), which they submit in electronic form to the teacher (submission and acceptance for evaluation is a condition for obtaining credit). Exam (pres., dist.): The first part of the exam is the defense of the seminar work as part of a colloquium in front of the teacher, either by contact or using the means of remote electronic communication. The second part of the exam takes the form of a final written test (contact / distance form). In the make-up period, the exam as a whole has an oral form (contact / distance form).
